The Nautae: ‘young’ but mighty!

In mid-March, as the Marymount community was dreaming of vacation plans, the Nautae, Marymount’s Robotics team, traveled to Long Beach to participate in the annual Los Angeles Regional F.I.R.S.T. Competition.

Preparation for the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology competition takes literally hundreds of hours during a very short build window, so commitment is key.  Close to two-thirds of this enthusiastic team was new to robotics, but dedication and energy paid of while the Nautae competed against more than 60 other teams. In the end, this fearless group of rookies brought home both the Spirit Award and special recognition for its commitment to safety.

The Team Spirit Award recognizes extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit through exceptional partnership and teamwork. In presenting the award, the F.I.R.S.T. organizers noted, “This team has gone through crests and troughs, but their positive attitude floods through the pits, They have managed to stick through it, recruiting multiple new members to their team in recent years. Regardless of outcome, you’ll see this team giving awesome high fives to their shipmates in battle as they sail into port!”
