Kingdom Fair video projects as food for thought

This year, as part of the service and theology programs, Marymount eleventh graders were given the opportunity to become video producers. In an effort to allow students to engage in contemporary issues in a meaningful way and teach them to craft a message through art, students selected a song, visuals and a few carefully chosen words to communicate a message about social justice.

Themes ranged from depression and homelessness to corruption and love. Through this exercise, students recognized the power of song to influence thinking about an issue, and learned that the media is an important tool for determining a social justice agenda. In addition to the message and song, students were asked to include a Bible verse and Catholic social teaching in order to ground the video in a scriptural context relating their messages.
