Class of 2016 helps to produce the APCH Health and Garden Expo

Marymount's sophomore class is working hard to to teach others how to live a healthy lifestyle. Their work will culminate this weekend at the APCH Health and Garden Expo.

Since September, the class of 2016 has worked to plan a Health and Garden Expo for A Place Called Home, an organization that provides after-school and weekend enrichment programming for at-risk youth in South Central Los Angeles.

Set in the midst of a "food desert", APCH invited Marymount's sophomore class to work to fundraise, plan, coordinate and serve at the Health and Garden Expo which is an event that will teach and promote methods for living a healthy lifestyle in the midst of limited resources.

On Saturday, April 26th, Marymount sophomores will run an exhibitor table teaching adult and child CPR and First Aid to attendees, while other students direct attendees to free clinics or workshops about healthy cooking and exercise. The Kid Zone, staffed primarily with Marymount sophomores, will entertain the children of attendees who are attending classes and clinics.

This service learning experience has challenged students to write letters to major corporations, make phone requests to a variety of offices and challenged them to organize a large-scale event for this nonprofit organization. The sophomore class has worked diligently to prepare and the South Central community at A Place Called Home will benefit thanks to the hard work and dedication of the class of 2016.
