HOBY: A Tradition of Leadership Training

In a long-standing Marymount tradition, 2014 HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) representative Pascale Williams ’16 announced the 2015 HOBY representative, Sage Strieker ’17, at Community on Monday December 1.

Founded in 1958 by actor and activist Hugh O’Brian, HOBY is a youth leadership program that is designed to motivate and empower young people to become leaders in their communities through service and personal development. Each year, one student is selected to represent Marymount based on her character, demonstrated leadership ability, involvement in and commitment to the Marymount community.

When asked about her experience at the HOBY State Leadership Seminar, Pascale answered,

“HOBY was an incredible experience. Going to the seminar gave me the opportunity to reflect on my leadership capabilities and see how I can use them in this beautiful community here at Marymount and beyond. The conference made me excited just to be me and taught me how to help to bring that same confidence out in others. I also learned that there are many types of leaders -- and that the best leaders allow others to take the reigns once in a while!”
