Wouldn't it be nice to pick up a box full of love?

Finals may be looming, but rather than spending all of their time cramming in last bits of studying before exam day, some Marymount students took a break from the review process to center their thoughts around something other than their grades and schoolwork: love.  More specifically, the people they love.

This week, in Fran Ruth’s 10th Grade Theology class, each student created a “prayer box” designed with a particular loved one in mind - someone she thought could benefit from some extra love and support. To complete the project, students gathered songs, poems, prayers, photos, and mementos to decorate the boxes for their intended recipients.  Phrases like ‘be strong’ and ‘better together’ punctuated images of families, friends, pets, beloved places and favorite pass times. At the end of this week, each student will give her prayer box to her special loved one, instructing him/her to use the box as a place to write notes about daily worries, concerns and fears, releasing each of these thoughts every time they close the box.  The box is also intended to serve as a daily reminder of unconditional love.

Why take the time to create these prayer boxes? Ms. Ruth explains,  “In class, we’ve been studying about the miracles that Jesus performed and collectively wondered if miracles exist today. When the world around us seems so cold at times...wouldn't it be nice to be able to pick up a box full of love? That alone could be the the miracle someone needs in their life.”
