Carmen Voskuhl ’17 is selected as a semifinalist in the nationally-acclaimed ‘Music Center Presents’ Spotlight Program

The Music Center has named Marymount sophomore Carmen Voskuhl among 108 semifinalists in the 27th annual The Music Center Presents Spotlight Program, a nationally-acclaimed scholarship and arts training program for teens.

Semifinalists were named in each of seven categories, including Acting, Ballet, Non-Classical Dance, Classical Voice, Non-Classical Voice, Classical Instrumental and Jazz Instrumental.

The competition was tough; more than 1600 high school students from Southern California auditioned this year, and Carmen notes, “I understood that I was among many gifted performers, and the experience has made me more confident with my singing.”

As part of the Spotlight Program in the Classical Voice category, Carmen will now participate in a master class in order to continue to grow as a singer. These classes will prepare her for a final audition to earn one of just 14 “Grand Prize Winner” spots, which would give Carmen the opportunity to perform in the Spotlight Grand Finale Performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall at the end of March.

Carmen, now a sophomore at Marymount, has been studying voice since she was in the fourth grade, and plans to continue to make music an important part of her life’s work. She notes, “I hope to someday use my voice to make people happy, and to make this earth a better place.”

We wish Carmen the best of luck in her upcoming final auditions and offer congratulations for her semifinalist honor in this wonderful celebration of music and voice!
