Sophomore Grace Rector receives Minnetonka Moccasin Shoe Company “Me To We” Youth Scholarship

Congratulations to sophomore Grace Rector, who was recently awarded Minnetonka Moccasin Shoe Company’s annual “Me to We” Youth Scholarship!

Each year, the Minnetonka Moccasin Shoe Company sponsors one student who has shown a commitment to global issues or community volunteerism to participate in a “Me to We” volunteer trip in Ecuador. Grace has volunteered with “Me to We” in the past, and this year, she is the shoe company’s sole scholarship recipient for the trip to Ecuador.

Propelled by this scholarship, Grace will spend two weeks this summer living in the Andes with a small group of other teens from across the country that have shown a fierce commitment to service and human rights. Grace and her peers will work together on high-priority local service projects learning more about the indigenous peoples and women’s issues in this part of the world along the way.

Grace has been acting on her passion for service and global issues for the better part of her life. On campus, she is part of the service organization “Free the Children”, “Sailors for Service” Student Board, as well as Model United Nations.  When she’s not at school, she is an active member of the Girls Scouts and the YMCA’s “Youth and Government” program.

Grace notes, “Me to We provides life-changing journeys. After returning from my last trip with this organization, I began to approach everything in my life with a new perspective. Overall, my experience on the trip taught me how to set realistic goals, not just in service-related work, but in all areas of my life.  I already can’t wait to use this skill in my work in Ecuador this summer!”

Congratulations again Grace – we look forward to sharing more about your journey to Ecuador this summer!
