Marymount High School Sophomore Chosen to Receive Music Center's Spotlight Award for Visual Arts
Marymount High School sophomore, Victoria Kasar, was recently named semi-finalist in the 2008 Music Center's visual arts Spotlight Awards with a concentration in photography.
This is quite an accomplishment as the Spotlight Awards is a nationally acclaimed program for Southern California High School students in the arts.
Victoria was one of the semi-finalists chosen out of more than 400 student photographers who entered submissions. She had the opportunity to show her work to a panel of prominent members in the art community, attend master classes, and take advantage of museum tours. Her work will be exhibited in the Pacific Asia Art Museum, and Vicky will also be included in the award ceremony April 26 at the Spotlight Music Center.
Victoria’s black and white photographs captured themes dealing with portraiture and landscapes in dual exterior and interior scapes. The submitted photo was entitled "Trapped." It is a portrayal of the difficulties during adolescence, and how being at this age can sometimes be restricting.
After named being one of 15 semifinalists in the photography section Vicky said, "I'm very excited to be recognized for my photography and hope to continue to excel in photography for the rest of my life." She credits the encouragement of her art and photography teachers at Marymount as the catalysts for submitting her work.
The Music Center Spotlight Awards program was established in 1988. Now in its 20th year, the program boasts many highly successful past winners. More importantly, thousands of students of all levels of ability have benefited from this unique learning experience.
Marymount High School congratulates Vicky Kasar ’10 and wishes her continued success.
