Model United Nations Conference
2/5/2010
The Model United Nations (MUN) Club of Marymount High School will sponsor its fourth annual conference from 8 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Please click "Read More" and then on the first link below for the conference schedule. We will host approximately 150 delegates from eight high schools including Marymount. MM-MUN 2010 will be a single delegate performance conference offering five committees: A Reformed Security Council (RSC) that will discuss the current problems in Afghanistan and four versions of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) each presenting a different environmental topic: Freshwater Depletion, Biodiversity, Deforestation, and Hazardous Waste Management. Please click "Read More" and then on the second link below for committee topic synopses.
The 2010 conference theme and committee topics demonstrate Marymount High School’s concern for and commitment to improve the global environment. MUN GREEN CHANGE is our motto and we are committed to debating and discovering innovative solutions to environmental issues and to presenting as “green” a conference as possible.
We hope that our immediately relevant topics will spark constructive debate and creative resolutions. Resolutions should be the result of committee work and not brought fully formed to the conference. Personal laptops will be permitted and we will provide a one-day access to the web via our online network for research purposes. We will also have available a few computers for delegate use. Lunch from Baja Fresh is included in the conference fee.
Three levels of performance awards will be presented in each committee: The Gavel for Best Performance, Outstanding Delegate, and Commendation. Our overarching goals in sponsoring a conference are to provide a friendly yet challenging forum to help improve conference performance and to foster closer relations among our fellow MUN programs in Southern California.
