Update On The Head of School Search

Dear Marymount Community,
On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee, welcome to all of our returning and new families, faculty, and staff! We hope that you enjoyed a healthy and restful summer and are excited for the 2024-2025 school year under the leadership of Interim Head of School, Dawn Regan.
We would like to provide a brief update on the Search for our next Head of School. Our consultants from the professional search firm, Educational Directions, have been recruiting candidates locally and from around the nation since last spring. Not surprisingly, the response has been very positive and is in keeping with Marymount’s stellar national and international reputation. Educational Directions informs us that we have a strong, diverse group of candidates who represent a broad range of experience.
We are pleased that the search calendar remains on track. Our search consultants are currently finalizing their initial evaluations and are preparing candidates’ files for the Search Committee’s consideration. In the weeks ahead, the Search Committee will review, interview, and evaluate candidates in collaboration with our search consultants before ultimately determining the finalists who will engage with the broader Marymount community as part of the inclusive selection process. Importantly, finalist candidates will be interviewed by Marymount constituent groups, while the candidates simultaneously discern whether they could see themselves as a long-term leader of our Marymount community.
Ultimately, the Search Committee — informed by numerous sources of information gathered throughout the months-long process — will keep in mind the leadership needs of Marymount at this time and for years into the future. The Committee will make a final recommendation to the Board of Trustees (who will have already interviewed the finalists) for the Board’s review and approval. The Board looks forward to announcing our next Head of School once the decision is finalized.
The transition process will culminate with the next Head of School commencing work in July 2025. Prior to July, the new Head will have the opportunity to visit Marymount on several occasions and begin to prepare for a smooth transition with the Board of Trustees and entire school community.
