Kingdom Fair Reimagined: A Spectacular Virtual Experience

Kingdom Fair has been a beloved tradition at Marymount for decades, celebrating mission-inspired work, social justice, and community outreach.
Time and again, we hear our alumnae speak of their fond memories over their Kingdom Fair experiences, and how the service carried out from this service project had left an indelible mark over the course of their personal and professional trajectories.

During their Junior year, students volunteer a minimum of thirty service hours with a non-profit organization of their choice, though most students exceed that number exponentially. Culminating with a research paper and visual presentation, students reflect on their direct service – bridging the school’s RSHM pillars and the core tenets of Catholic social teaching – at a community-wide presentation.

With the limitations set forth due to our current global health crisis, this tradition had to be reworked. Instead, students were asked to create videos of their experience and a select few were presented to the entire community through an all-school Zoom presentation on Wednesday, April 29.

Religious Studies faculty Ms. Eireen Ty shared, “As we stand in solidarity with the global community during this pandemic, these students’ stories and reflection serve as a reminder of how we can make an impact on our communities through the decisions that we make to connect with one another and to invest in relationships.”

Religious Studies Department Chair Ms. Christie Borges continued, “Every decision we make or don’t make impacts every single person on the planet through its ripple effects. Regardless of our life circumstances, we always have the power to better the world in every moment we are in: let’s do what we can, from where we are, and with what we have.”

Distinct from years past, this year’s Kingdom Fair proved to be spectacular, with Head of School Ms. Jacqueline L. Landry sharing that our students edify our RSHM charism “That all may have life.”
