The Marymount Fr/So squad lined up opposite Alemany’s squad; “the battle was on.” Alemany took the first set 19-25. The Warriors played steady and the Sailors struggled a bit with their ball control. Set 2 started off very even, with the contest being even at 11-11. Then the Sailors found their rhythm and played nicely, taking Set #2, 25-18. Logan D. '25 led the way with 7 kills.
This positioned the Sailors to get their revenge over Alemany, having lost to them 2 weeks ago. Both teams played smart and solid volleyball. The Sailors found themselves behind, late in the set, 11-9. They battled back and tied the score at 12-12. The JV match had finished at this point, so both schools' Varsity and JV squads were surrounding the court, along with each school’s fan base. And then, things got real exciting. With both teams playing intently, the score bounced around, 13-13, 14-14, 15-15, etc. Both teams produced kills and each had hard fought errors. The Sailors served for match point 3 times. They also fought off Alemany match point opportunities three times. In the end, Marymount took a big swing to tie up the score and just missed the court. Alemany won the third set, 20-18, and took the match.
Although the result was a loss of match, the Fr/So Sailors fought like never before. They also found themselves in the midst of an exciting, competitive, energy filled, third set moment that they are likely to remember for some time. Great Job Sailors!
