The Eighth Annual Great Marymount Bake-Off

Tradition is the foundation on which a community is built. And every so often, within a living legacy, new traditions take root, adding richness and renewed vibrancy to an already strong institution.
In 2018, that vibrancy came to life with the creation of The Great Marymount Bake-Off, a student and faculty baking competition loosely inspired by The Great British Bake Off.  What began as a celebratory nod to Mardi Gras has become a beloved tradition of friendly competition, culinary talent, and community spirit.

With 56 entrants, this year’s Bake-Off was record-breaking, featuring submissions from students, parents, guardians, faculty, and staff. “It’s such a special event,” shared Lindsay Mays, Director of Student Life, Inclusion, and Belonging. “We get to begin the Lenten Season celebrating the talents of our students.”

The competition is about more than indulgence on Fat Tuesday. It offers students the opportunity to explore their skills in the kitchen and collaborate with their friends and family to create something delicious, fun, and often artistically beautiful. From s’mores cookies to mini bundt cakes, banana pudding, and baklava, Marymount’s Terry Leavy Lemons Pavilion was packed with homemade treats. A secret panel of judges evaluated each entry, awarding winners by grade level, taste, presentation, and best parent/student duo.

With the highest participation, the Senior Class led the way, proving that their final year on campus is filled with both leadership and a little extra flair.

The individual and group winners were:

  • 9th Grade Overall Winner - Zayah R. ’29 (Strawberry Brownies and Honey Bun Cake)
  • 10th Grade Overall Winner - Payton B. ’28 and Emory O. ’28 with Taylor B. ’26 and Grace C. ’26 (Strawberry Chocolate Bark)
  • 11th Grade Overall Winner - Sofia W. ’27 (Banana Pudding)
  • 12th Grade Overall Winner - Piper D. ’26 (Mini-Cinnamon Cakes)
  • Best Taste - Riley D. ‘29 and Vendela H. ’29 (Dubai Chocolate Bites)
  • Best Presentation - sister duo, Tessa D. ’29 and Marian D. ’26 (Teddy Bear Cupcakes), and Sara S. ’26 and Juliet S. ’26 (Succulent Cupcakes)
  • Best Parent/Child Duo - Juliette K. ’26 and her mother, Class of 1991 alumna, Molly K. (Chocolate Bundt Cake and Smores Cookies)

As we begin the Lenten season and continue toward Easter, we’ll carry with us the sweetness of our community at this gathering—and look forward to the next Bake-Off.
