Connections Across Generations

On Thursday, March 12, we welcomed 40 alumnae and their current student relatives for Marymount’s annual Legacy Tea, a gathering for those connected to the school across generations.
Held as an opportunity to reconnect and build relationships, the afternoon brought together alumnae with daughters, sisters, and nieces who are current students. With approximately 20 students in attendance, the space quickly filled with conversation that moved easily between past and present.

Many alumnae found themselves reconnecting with classmates—particularly from the early to mid-90s—while also engaging with faculty and school leadership, including Head of School Dr. Fadia Hefni Desmond ’90. The familiarity in the room was immediate, shaped by shared experiences that, even across decades, still resonate.

For alumnae, the gathering offered a chance to return not just to campus, but to the relationships that defined their time here. For students, it created space to see those experiences reflected back through the stories of those who came before them.

“This event is so fun,” shared Olivia W. ’24. “A lot of people haven’t had the experience I’ve had at Marymount, where I got to go to the same school as my mother and sister, or had the chance to make the connections I’ve made. I get to hear about my mom’s experiences and how different it was for the three of us, but how much we all gained from it. It’s just so fun to come back.”

“It shows the community here,” added Olivia’s younger sister, Avery W. 26, “and that people who graduate want to come back and spend time with current students. It’s really special.”

That sense of shared experience was echoed by students across grade levels. “It’s really special that both my mom and sister understand Marymount too; we have all of these similar experiences,” shared Audrey D. ’29.

Erin D. ’95, mother to senior Emma D. ’26 and freshman Audrey D. ’29, “I love any chance to get back on campus and see my kids in their environment, with their friends and living their own lives. I love getting to connect with old classmates and see what’s going on at the school.”

Events like Legacy Tea are intentionally designed to strengthen these connections across generations. “Legacy Tea is about creating space for connection—between alumnae and students, but also among alumnae themselves,” shared Director of Alumnae Relations and Constituent Events Hillary Brademan Del Regno ’90. “When alumnae come back to campus and immediately reconnect, it’s a reminder that Marymount relationships don’t end at graduation. They continue to grow, and events like this allow the next generation to step into that same sense of belonging.”

Throughout the afternoon, those connections were easy to see—alumnae picking up conversations with former classmates, students listening to stories that felt both distant and familiar, and families experiencing Marymount together in a new way. As the afternoon came to a close, the room slowly emptied—but the connections, both old and new, carried on beyond it.
