Celebrating Ten #SailorStrong Athletes Continuing to College Athletic Programs

Ten of Marymount’s top-performing student athletes were celebrated on Wednesday, April 25th as their parents, fellow Sailors, and faculty members came together to formally celebrate the continuation of their athletic achievements.
These young women will go on to represent their ten respective colleges and universities in five different sports (see list below) over the course of this next chapter in their lives. According to the NCAA, approximately 8 million high school students participate in athletics each year. Of those, only 6% continue on to play NCAA sports in college (including both men and women). In a sport such as Women’s Volleyball, the percentage is even smaller at 3.9%!

At Marymount, on average, 45% of the student body participates in athletics. The entire Marymount community and athletics program could not be prouder of these students who will be among the select few that continue on and take both their academic and athletic talents to the next level. Head of School, Jacqueline Landry elaborated on this, remarking, “This day is not only a personal milestone for each scholar-athlete, it is a proud moment for Marymount High School as an institution. This is a true testament to the strength of a Marymount girl both inside the classroom and on the field.
