Creative Ambition Shines at Marymount's Spring Arts Festival

On Wednesday, April 25, audiences witnessed the creative ambition exuded by Marymount girls at this year’s Spring Arts Festival, which celebrates our multi-talented artists, musicians, actors and dancers.
Our Visual Arts Department opened the night with breathtaking works of art impeccably displayed inside Marymount’s Digital Resource Center (DRC). The new space was a perfect complement to the innovative, imaginative and creative expressions as seen through our student’s photography, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and mixed-media artStudents, families, friends and members of the Marymount community walked the gallery-setting to view students’ reflective expression: each piece explored, questioned and touched on deep emotion. Students’ works challenged, reflected and addressed social issues through their unique lens of art’s interpretation.

The Performing Arts Department and Marymount’s Conservatory Arts Program (CAP) followed the reception with a showcase of dramatic performances, including music from Oasis and Tchaikovsky, renditions of classic Shakespeare and modern interpretive dance. Students from our combined orchestras, the CAP Rock Band, the High C’s, and acting, dancing and choir classes thrilled the audience with their talent. Our girls’ melodic voices echoed emotion, while our dancers narrated stories through technique, choreography and movement. Our talented orchestra, ranging from beginners to advanced musicians, explored different genres while bringing smiles to the audience, while our actors brought to life 17th Century works in the modern setting.

At Marymount, we teach girls that learning is about discovery and adventure. We encourage girls to be intellectually curious and achieve the highest academic achievements, while also exploring their creative passions. We continue to be in awe of the boundless gifts each young woman brings to the table extending beyond the classroom, and the Spring Arts Festival was just one of the forums in which these women so beautifully excelled.

Thank you to Head of School Jacqueline L. Landry and our accomplished faculty, Dr. Stephen Billington, Ms. Julie Carson, Mr. David Conley, Ms. Kate Hackett, Ms. Ceres Madoo, Ms. Jae Perez, Mr. Chris Schulte and Mr. Tom Zimmerman. Without their incredible vision, instruction and inspiration, this event would not have been possible. And thank you to the members of our Marymount community who showed their appreciation for the arts by attending the Festival.
