Lead-HER-ship Takes Off at Marymount’s Annual Activities Fair

On Monday, Sept. 24, the Marymount community joined together as student leaders of over 40 organizations presented their clubs’ missions and purpose to the student body at our annual Activities Fair.
Following the presentations, students gathered on Senior Lawn to sign up for this year’s various activities, which represent a wide-range of interests, causes, and service.

Dawn Regan, Dean of Students, said the variety of service organizations, creative outlets, and cultural clubs is emblematic of LeadHERship skills that Marymount promotes.

“We want to give our students real-world skills and tools to build and create sustainable organizations that serve our school community and the world at large,” Ms. Regan said. “The LeadHERship skills our girls learn through these extracurriculars are fundamental stepping stones that prepare them well for their careers, volunteerism, service, and social justice advocacy.”

Extracurricular pursuits are built into Marymount’s curriculum with a dedicated block scheduled into the bi-weekly Period 9. Students meet with their clubs on a regular basis during lunch, Period 9, and off-campus to practice their entrepreneurial skills and keep organizations current and active.

“We are empowering young women to take active leadership roles in everything they do and everywhere they go: in the classroom, on the basketball court, during debates, on stage,” Ms. Regan said. “Entrepreneurship is all encompassing.”
