The Marymount Players Debut The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

On Friday, March 15, the Marymount Players debuted their Spring Musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a witty, fast-paced, comedic musical.
Over three days, the Players performed four public showings of the Bee, which tells the story of an eclectic group of quirky adolescents vying for first place in an annual spelling bee. The musical incorporates audience participation into its plot – a first for a Players’ production. Featured audience members included beloved faculty members, Les Anges, alumnae, and other attendees.

“This musical challenged the students to learn how to play with the unrehearsed and unexpected variables of audience participation,” said Marymount Players’ Director Ms. Claire Hackett.

A total of 45 Marymount students participated in the production. Twenty-two students performed in the cast, and three in the orchestras. Six production assistants and 14 build-and-run crew worked behind the scenes.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is based on a Tony Award winning book by Rachel Sheinkin with music and lyrics by William Finn, and with additional material by Jay Reiss.
