JV Volleyball Redondo Tournament – 9.14.19

Millikin - Game 1
The JV Sailors played in the Redondo Tournament, their second tournament of the season. Their first opponent for the 6 team pool was Millikan Rams of Long Beach. The Sailors started off nervous and were down 10-4. Regrouping and realizing they were not playing as a team, the Sailors stepped it up with Keili K. taking the lead. Julia C. had 4 kills and Emma S. had 2 kills. Coco K. was pounding the balls in areas that were making it hard for Millikan to reach. In Game 2, Paige P. had 6 kills, Nicole M. and Maren P. each ad 3 aces. Marymount wins 25-23, 25-18.
Marlborough 2 - Game 2
 
Marymount faced Marlborough #2 , a team of mostly Freshman players. The Sailors knew they could not let their guard down, they communicated well and played with consistency. Paige P. and Julia C. placed the ball in strategic places making it difficult for the Mustangs to handle. Keili K. had 4 aces. Dior C. and Catherine M. were defensive blocking walls. Maren P. passed well. Amelie L. and Nicole M. both had serving runs. Emma S., Coco K. and Alana B. al had kills and great off blocker defense. The Sailors used this game to improve in areas they felt were lapsing. Game 2 score, 25-5, 25-12.
 
South Torrance – Game 3
 
The Sailors went into his game with confidence and determination. They knew that South Torrance was going to be a tough team to defeat. Nicole M. and Maren P. passed really well throughout both games. Amelie L. and Keili K. each had 3 aces. Dior C. had 3 kills and Catherine M. had 4 kills and 2 aces. Alana B. had a great game both offensively and defensively. Julia C. and Paige P. had strong kills and serves. The Sailors were triumphant again with a final score of 25-16, 25-15.
 
Marlborough 1 – Game 4
 
Facing Marlborough’s JV team was one of the tougher games of the day. The Sailors knew they were going to play a one game match instead of 2 so they had to stay prepared. The Mustangs had a strong middle blocker which kept Dior C. and Catherine M. our middles and outside hitters, Paige P. Emma S. and Julia C., on their toes. Strong serving and blocking was the key to Marymount’s success. Paige P. had 2 kills and Emma S. had 3 kills. Nicole M. passed with efficiency and Maren P. was ready on defense. Amelie L. had 2 aces and set well. The final score of this exciting game was 25-21.
 
South Torrance – Game 5
 
Heading into the Semi Finals the Sailors faced South Torrance for a rematch. Nicole M. was serving rockets. She had 4 aces to start the match off. Emma S. was hitting the ball with force and had 2 kills. Paige P. was setting well enabling the hitters Alana B. and Coco K. to kill the ball. Dior C. and Catherine M. had their usual dominating blocking game. Marymount worked hard and defeated South Torrance 25-11 to head into the Finals.
 
Cathedral Christian – Game 6 - FINALS
 
The Sailors headed into the finals undefeated and with one goal left, the Championship. It was crucial to work together as a team and make great plays. Catherine M. had a couple of blocks and placed touches against a strong hitting team. Paige P. and Julia C. both had 3 kills. It was a back and forth game with each team taking the lead and giving it back. In the end Cathedral pulled out the win 19-25. Congratulations Sailors and the 2nd place finish. Congratulations to Catherine M. and Nicole M. who were named to the All-Tournament team.
