Advent Mass and Feast of the Immaculate Conception

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, Marymount’s community celebrated the second week of Advent and the feast of the Immaculate Conception in Pavillion.
As the day marked the feast of the Immaculate Conception, which celebrates Mary, the mother of Jesus, being conceived without original sin,  Marymount's community was invited to join in prayer reflecting on how we are choosing to bring peace and joy to our lives and in our community.

Led by Fr. Mark Villano, member of the Marymount Board of Trustees and Associate Director at the University Catholic Center at UCLA, his homily encouraged all who attended to reflect on our sacred "yes" to being of service. "The joy of the yes passes, and that is when perseverance comes in," said Fr. Villano. "We need to remind ourselves of our original yes. To nourish ourselves on God's word, God's truth, God's support from those who understand our community."

Marymount's Faculty Band opened the service with "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel", followed by Marymount students showcasing an abundance of talent and grace through performances including, CAP Dancers dancing to "O Come All Ye Faithful," and Olivia B. '22 solo dance performance to "Light of the World." Scarlett G. '24 beautifully sang "Ave Maria".

From Latin, the word “Advent” directly translates to “coming.” The Advent season is an important time for reflection and preparation, where we direct our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming, and prepare for the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas.
