Spring Snippets

This week, our Sailors settled back into the final leg of the school year after a well-deserved two-week Spring Break, celebrating the hard work and impressive accomplishments on and off campus throughout the spring. From Performing Arts productions to wonderful alumnae events and educational programming, our girls have been winning awards, impressing audiences with heartfelt performances, and serving the community, and we are so proud of all they have accomplished. Let’s take a look back and recap just a few happenings from March!

Many wonderful, brave and thoughtful speeches were made in hopes of filling the roles of President, Vice President, Social Coordinators and Publicity Coordinators. Congratulations to our newest guard of ASB members and to all the girls who ran for office to serve our school community next year. We couldn’t be more impressed with the civic engagement here on campus!

Sandwich Builders Community Service Event

On Tuesday, March 14th, Marymount students came together to build over 400 lunches as a part of our Annual Sandwich Builders event. Each year, students, teachers, and families comes together to create hundreds of sandwiches to donate them to local hunger prevention organizations throughout the Los Angeles community. An integral event in our Service Learning Program, Sandwich Builders provides a fun and lively setting for our community to learn about the impact that their time means to families who are in need. Thanks to the leadership of Catherine S. ’17, who has been committed to Service Learning throughout her four years at Marymount, this event was flawlessly executed!

Parent Education Series Featuring Author Christine Hassler

On Wednesday, March 15th, we welcomed Christine Hassler to campus for our Annual Parent Education Series. Christine, a three-time best-selling author, delivered a thoughtful, in-depth and interactive discussion on themes relating to adolescent self-confidence and growth. This talk, which explored the themes of her new book, "Expectation Hangover: Overcoming Disappointment in Work, Love and Life," was customized for parents looking to support their daughters journey of self-assurance, compassion and balanced lives, as well as managing the stressors of high school in a healthy and successful way. Christine’s wonderful sense of humor, relatable point and deep knowledge of issues around identity and confidence made for an engaging and fun night for our Marymount parents, alumnae and friends.

On Saturday, March 18th, the Marymount campus was transformed into a United Nations conference hall. Our 70 MUN delegates (and several amazing student volunteers) hosted over 200 students from neighboring Southern California high schools. With eight different committees, a custom logo created by Senior Krystyna M., and the 193 UN flags decorating the ceiling of our Pavilion, the MUN conference, themed “Cracking Controversy,” was a wonderful celebration of global diplomacy, and a huge success for our committed and talented MUN students.
