Senior Spotlight Series with Krystyna M. '17

Graduation is rapidly approaching, and our “Senior Spotlight” series is dedicated to catching up with a few of our Seniors to find out how they are feeling as they wrap up their high school experience and look back on their four years here at Marymount. Read what Krystyna M. ’17 has to say.
(MHS): How are you feeling as you approach Graduation and finish up your Marymount Experience?

(KM): Honestly, this feels like it can't be real. I feel like these past four years went by faster than I thought they would.

What’s next for you after Marymount? Any plans for the summer before you embark on your next adventure?

I plan to attend Caltech in the fall. During the summer, I hope to travel abroad because during my undergraduate years I will most likely be spending my summers doing research or working, so this is my last summer for traveling adventures.

Reflecting back on your time here, what has been a favorite Marymount memory for you?

I have so many great memories, but one of my favorites has to be [Sage S. ‘17] always saying "Slay girl!" or "Yas queen!" during physics class every time someone answered a question correctly. She created such an encouraging and supportive environment and made the class a lot more fun than it already was.

What activities, sports and/or classes have been most meaningful and impactful for you throughout your four years? Are you planning to pursue any of these in College?

My internship in the Voskuhl lab (UCLA Department of Neurology, Multiple Sclerosis Program Research Lab) has definitely been the most impactful for me. It not only gave me experience doing lab work, but also ignited my interest in the STEM fields and has greatly influenced what I want to major in. I definitely plan to continue participating in research in college and possibly beyond.

As a graduating Senior, what advice do you have for younger Marymount students who are charting their course through high school?

For the younger students, I highly recommend you participate in an internship. For me, the experience definitely helped me decide what I want to do in life and what I want to study in college.

How has Marymount impacted you personally, and what can the incoming Freshmen expect from their next four years at Marymount?

If I had not gone to Marymount, I definitely would not have become the confident and outspoken person I am today. Marymount has given me so many opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom that I would not have gotten anywhere else. As for what to expect during the next four years, you will have many amazing teachers, meet many amazing people, and learn more about yourself and your beliefs about the world.

Thank you so much to Krystyna M. '17 for chatting with us and sharing her thoughts on the upcoming Graduation and her time here at Marymount. We can't wait to see where your journey takes you in college and beyond, Krystyna!
