Welcoming Back our Sailor Sisters for the 2017-18 School Year

Last Monday, Aug. 28, Marymount was thrilled to welcome back our community of exuberant young women for the 2017-2018 school year.
Between first-day, jittery “hello’s” and hopeful, happy hugs, our hearts burst navy and white with pride as we watched old friends connect and new friendships anchor in our Marymount traditions.

This year, we are 400 students strong: our newest group of Sailors, the Class of 2021, is comprised of 99 eager Freshmen from 87 Los Angeles-area middle schools. The day began with a celebratory community gathering of faculty, staff and students honoring Sailor pride and faith. In addition to helpful tips from our Associated Student Body (ASB) and Honor Council, Head of School Jacqueline L. Landry offered warm wishes for the school year with an inspiring message of resilience, strength, reflection and hope for our girls to be ambassadors of change.

Following Ms. Landry’s empowering address, our students affirmed their dedication to our Sailor standards with a recitation of the Marymount Honor Pledge:  As a member of the Marymount community, I will strive to act with integrity, trustworthiness, honesty and respect for human dignity and the property of others. I promise to take full responsibility for my actions in all my academic and non-academic endeavors. I hereby accept this pledge as a guide to assist me in living honorably.

As our first week of school draws to a close, Marymount stands resolute in our enthusiasm for an exciting year of laughter, friendship and accomplishment by our Sailor Sisters.
