Many Languages, Countries and Voices. One Prayer.

“Oh, Holy One, we the women of the world, ask for peace.”

Led by Marymount’s Model United Nations Team, our community is in the midst of celebrating “Global Community Week,” created to celebrate diversity, heritage and to honor “United Nations Day” on 10/24. Today, as part of the week’s celebration, the entire Marymount community gathered to participate in our first annual International Prayer for Peace.

MUN Secretary General Irene Kim ‘15 inspirationally opened the ceremony noting, “We are 400 times more powerful when we pray together as one community.”  Nearly 40 girls representing 26 countries and ethnic heritages offered the inclusive prayer, spoken in the feminine voice:  “Oh, Holy One, we the women of the world, ask for peace.” The room was still and serene, as young women representing countries from all over the world, united in prayer for global peace.

According to MUN moderator and Social Studies faculty, Dr. Theresa Menard, “The spirit of Global Community Week is to create a new school tradition that is completely inclusive and truly celebrates our diverse heritage as a Marymount Institution – we are global, deeply tied to the United Nations through our founders the RSHM and spiritually welcoming to all.”

We hope you enjoy the video to the right that captures the spirit of this wonderful event!
