Student Support

Program

The Dean of Students, Advisory Coordinators, and College Counselors facilitate the Advisory Program at each grade level. Through this program students develop social and emotional health and college readiness through self-discovery, an introduction to school community resources, individual advisement, and skills instruction. Healthy decision-making skills throughout one’s life are emphasized. First-year and sophomore students develop skills for the transition to and success within secondary school, while juniors and seniors hone skills and traits for the application and successful transition to college.

  • Ninth Grade

The 9th grade curriculum emphasizes adjusting to high school and the exploration of developmental issues pertaining to adolescence. Topics covered include goal setting, time management, study skills, communication skills, social emotional development, and stress reducing techniques.
  • Tenth Grade

The 10th grade curriculum continues to develop emotional awareness, while introducing mindfulness techniques, compassion for self and others, and taking accountability for our actions. During the second semester, students prepare for the PSAT and are introduced to our college counselors and the college counseling program.
  • Eleventh Grade

The 11th grade curriculum is intended to maximize the high school experience and further establish transitional skills for the future by addressing the following: goal setting, personal values and how these relate to college majors, career choices, and healthy relationships. The spring semester is devoted to the college search process, including: types of schools, learning to identify personal preferences, the components of an application, how applications are evaluated, and standardized test preparation.
  • Twelfth Grade

The 12th grade curriculum focuses on preparing the student for admission to and success in college, as well as life after high school. Students are empowered to take responsibility for their college search and are consistently supported throughout the process. Topics include: college applications (choosing where to apply, filling out applications, writing the application essays, interviewing, and financial aid), and the emotional, academic, and social adjustment to college. The curriculum also includes topics such as financial literacy, personal safety, and independence.
