Spring Snippets

As we wrap up March and Women’s History Month over the coming week, we look ahead to the restful days of spring break to unplug and recharge before we approach the final stretch of the 2015-16 academic term. As our students head off to this well-deserved spring ‘pause,’ we are excited to share the news and campus happenings from this past month, and also look ahead to many more milestones to come later this spring!

  • Alumna Giada De Laurentiis ‘89 Addresses Students as part of the 2016 Inspiring Boldness Speaker Series: Accomplished Chef and sole female restaurateur on the Las Vegas Strip Giada De Laurentiis, inspired students to embrace the strong network of Marymount women both today, and for years to come, in her Inspiring Boldness Speaker Series presentation on Monday, March 7th. Stay tuned for a student-written reflection on Giada’s encouraging talk in our upcoming Spring Edition of “M” – The Marymount Magazine, written by student newspaper Editor-in-Chief Lucia Kim ’16 and Assistant Editor-in-Chief Clara Lacey ’17.

  • A Reflection On Women’s History Month: In the next edition of her Head of School Blog, Jacqueline L. Landry reflects on what March personally means to her, and to our community, as we look back on and celebrate the many achievements the female gender has attained over the past decades and centuries. • The College Journey Continues: As of this week, our Seniors are in the final stages of receiving college decision news. All Seniors have been accepted to 4-year collegiate programs, with over 70% of class admitted through early admission programs this past fall. To-date, acceptances include (but are not limited to): Bard, Bates, Boston College, Brown, Claremont McKenna College, Colgate University, Dartmouth, Duke University, Harvard University, Northwestern University, Notre Dame, NYU, Parsons School of Design, Pomona College, Stanford University, Tulane, UCLA, UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, and many more. We look forward to sharing the complete list of collegiate acceptances and matriculations for this impressive group of young women later this spring.

  • Marymount Hosts 10th Annual Model United Nations Conference: On Saturday, March 19th over 250 students from 13 high schools across the Southern California region participated in Marymount’s 10th Annual Model United Nations Conference, debating timely global issues related to this year’s theme, ‘Asia Ascending.’ The largest of any MUN conference to ever be hosted at Marymount was fully planned by 2016 Conference Chair Maddy Heldman ’16 and a staff of over 20 experienced Marymount MUN members. This impressive team of Marymount students wrote each session’s Topic Synopsis (click here to read the breakdown of conference topics), managed the session debates, and organized the Conference’s opening speaker and festivities. We are proud of all of the dedication, hard work and passion this club puts into their work, and we congratulate them on another successful event!

  • A Special Welcome to the Marymount Class of 2020! Set to be one of the largest Marymount classes over the past few years, we are excited to welcome the newest cohort of Sailor Sisters and their families to campus soon! Hailing from over 35 Catholic, Charter, Independent and Public institutions, this group of students has written us as part of the admission process, sharing fun facts in response to the question, ‘What makes you unique?’ We look forward to presenting a creative depiction of the over 100 “fun facts” we’ve received from this new class in early May! Welcome Class of 2020, we are so excited to have you join our Marymount family!

  • Over 215 Alumnae and their family members participated in this year’s Annual Easter Eggstravaganza! On Sunday, March 6th, over 215 Marymount alumnae and their family members came out for our Annual Easter Eggstravaganza, hosted on Senior Lawn. The day was filled with sunshine, a petting zoo, and an Easter egg hunt with over 450 eggs for the many children who were dressed to the nines to meet the most sought-after guest, the Easter Bunny himself! This is an event our community looks forward to all year, and we feel blessed to have caught up with our treasured group of local alumnae and their children.

Looking ahead to the remainder of this spring, we are excited to celebrate many more of our beloved traditions – the Annual Fathers Club Campus BBQ, Senior Farewell, Reunion and Graduation – and also to join together as a community to start new ones like our upcoming ‘Marymount Community Block Party!’ Stay tuned for more news, student accolades and event recaps on this newsreel, in our e-newsletters, and on our Facebook page!

Happy Spring Break to all!
