Dear Marymount Community,
As I write this letter, I cannot stop thinking about how incredibly strong and resilient our School community is. We know many of you and your loved ones have been impacted by the fires that are raging throughout Los Angeles County. Please know that the Marymount family is with you. With the ongoing threat of wildfires continuing throughout the region, we ask that everyone remain vigilant and heed public safety warnings; your safety is our highest concern.
Words often feel insufficient during such times, but we want you to know that you are not alone. Our Marymount community is here for you—in prayer, in action, in spirit, and in every way we can offer support. We recognize that the fires bring not only immediate disruption but also lingering fears and emotional strain. Whether it’s the trauma of evacuation, the uncertainty about the future, or the ongoing stresses of shifting landscapes and loss, we want to assure you that we as a community stand with you, no one is facing this alone.
We are fortunate that our School campus has not been adversely impacted by the gale-force winds or the fires. Recognizing the volatility of the ongoing crisis impacting our region, the campus will be closed for the remainder of this week. We will continue to monitor air quality and safety and will communicate plans for re-opening when we are able.
In the coming days, we will work together to ensure that your families have what they need to feel supported, both in practical ways and emotionally. Our commitment to you is steadfast, and we are taking immediate action to provide help. Here are a few of the steps that we are putting into place:
- Academic Support: Currently, our entire community is pausing from any academic work. We will continue to communicate throughout the week if we have any changes. What is important now is to focus on what is truly important- your family and community. Please take this time, if you can, to volunteer, donate, or support those in need.
- Emotional Support and Counseling: Our school counselors and Student Support Team are available for anyone who needs someone to talk to during this difficult time. We understand that the emotional toll of a natural disaster extends beyond the physical damage, and we are committed to supporting our students, parents, faculty, and staff in every way possible. Below is how to connect:
- Resource and Emergency Assistance: I have received an outpouring of community members ready and willing to help. Thank you, and I apologize for not responding individually to you all. If you can help, please fill out this form so we can connect our families.
- Ongoing Connection and Communication: We will continue to check in with students and families to ensure that your needs are met. Whether it’s for academic accommodations, emotional support, or simply a place to turn for help, our door is always open.
I am reminded that what makes this community so special is the unwavering bond we share. Together, we have weathered challenges before, and together, we will emerge from this stronger than ever. Marymount is more than just a school — this is a family, and families support each other through thick and thin. If you need anything, please reach out to us immediately. If you are unsure where to turn or how to ask for help, we will be there to listen and assist in any way possible. Our staff, our faculty, and our community leaders are ready and waiting to offer whatever resources or support you require.
As we move forward through this crisis, let us remember that this challenge, like all others, will pass. We put our faith in God to strengthen, unite, and infuse love within our community.
We are with you, today and always. I hold each one of you in my heart and I offer hope and light through the darkest moments.
With warmth and unwavering support,
Dawn Regan
