CIF-Wilson-Pete Brown "First Serve" girls high school team Tournament
V. Score: 1st Rd Lost 3-3 (35-40) West Torrance
2nd Rd Won 4-2 Marshall
3rd Rd Won 3-3 (35-30) San Gabriel
Third Place Trophy Lost 2-4 Villa Park
Highlights: The Lady Sailors competed in the all day Annual "First Serve" tournament now name in the honor of the great coach Pete Brown. Marymount last year champions face some tough competion first starting with our tournament rival West Torrance. The battle ended with a 3-3 tie with West Torrance winning on games 40-35. In the second Round, Marymount even the score in their second meeting against Marshall by winning 4-2. In the third round, the Lady Sailors tied again 3-3 but came out on the winning side 35-30 in games against San Gabriel.
Again the Lady Sailors made it to the final 4 featuring West Torrance and Rowland. (Champions / won 6-0) Marymount played Villa Park for the Third place trophy but unfortunately lost 4-2 to a very solid Villa Park team. Marymount finish number two in their bracket and number four overall, not a bad day at all. Highlight for Marymount was Micki Heldman who went undefeated at the #3 singles won 8-7(tie-breaker), 8-2, 8-1, and 6-0.
This was a long week of match play with 8 teams in four days which included a big win over Brentwood. Thanks to the Lady Sailors for their work on the court and to our team Mom Lorene
and all those parents who came out and supported our girls. The following are the girls that participated in the tournament:
