Statement Regarding the Conviction of Derek Chauvin and Support for the Marymount Community

Over the last month, we as a nation and school community have witnessed the trial of Derek Chauvin. The images, replaying footage from George Floyd’s death, have become front and center in our sight, and in our hearts and minds and have re-traumatized many in our community.
As a school community founded on the RSHM Mission that all may have life, and have it to the full, we are proponents for justice, and we are committed to a world focused on equality, due process, racial justice, inclusion, and equity. We stand with all those on the side of justice.

While the conviction on all counts is the jury’s verdict, our prayers remain with the family of George Floyd as the finality of his death is something they will continue to face for the entirety of their lives. At Marymount, we remain ever committed to racial justice in all areas. We have been and will continue to be a safe and supportive community in the weeks and months ahead for all of our students, especially our BIPOC students, faculty, and staff.
