Sailors come alive after Knepper’s triple

The bats started to come alive after freshman Sophie Knepper hit a 2 out triple in the top of the 6th inning. The Sailor’s carried over their momentum to the last inning, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th.
The Varsity Softball team started off a bit slow in Thursday’s non-league game against Beverly Hills High. The Sailors, who average 12 hits and 15 runs a game, were unable to make the early adjustment to the Norman’s off-speed pitcher.

The Sailors capitalized on 2 errors in the top of the first inning to put them ahead 2-0. Beverly Hills answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own. After a big second inning, the Normans took an early 8-2 lead and then extended it to 12-4 after five. With their backs against the wall, the Sailors dug down deep and came back fighting in true Sailor fashion.

With their spirits high, while cheering loudly, the Sailors showed new life in the top of the 7th inning. Center fielder Charlotte Barker lead off the inning with an infield single and lead off hitter Sarah Burgess drew a walk. Barker and Burgess advanced to 2nd and 3rd with a sac bunt by Kate Wegleitner

The Sailors were starting to get to the pitcher so a timeout was called by the Beverly Hills Coach. Rhapsody Washington came up to bat with runners in scoring position but was immediately hit by the pitch. With the bases loaded, Remi Halliburton hit a single that brought in Barker. Kaitlyn Greta came up big with a 2 run double to right center that scored Burgess and Washington. A pop-up to the shortstop ended the threat, giving the Normans a 12-7 win.

The coaches are all proud of the team for how hard they fight and the fact that they never give up. Highlights of the game: Kate Wegleitner was 2-2 with two sac bunts, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Sophie Knepper went 2-3 with a triple.
