Marymount Celebrates Global Community Week

On Monday, Oct. 22, Marymount began a weeklong celebration of diversity during our fourth annual Global Community Week.
Sponsored and organized by the Marymount chapter of Model United Nations (MUN), Global Community Week celebrates the birth of the United Nations by highlighting our school’s international diversity and raising awareness of global issues.

To kick off the week, MUN member and Global Community Week coordinator Jenna R. ’19 hosted an interactive, all-school assembly starting with a trivia game followed by a faculty versus students volleyball game. Once again, students defeated faculty in a year-over-year victory.

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Pavilion, our community held an International Prayer Service, with over 55 Performing Arts students participating in orchestral melodies, song and dance. Marymount’s orchestra performed Astor Piazzolla's "Libertango," a song famous for expanding the definition of what constitutes "tango," before our dancers showcased "Dance of the Orixas," an Afro-Brazilian dance. The Marymount choir concluded with a beautiful rendition of "Sisi Ni Moja," by Jacob Narverud.

During the prayer service, students and faculty prayed for global awareness and tolerance in 25 different languages, highlighting the international and cultural diversity rooted in our Marymount community.

Throughout the week, students also participated in various Thought Talks about cultures around the world, while SAGE Dining crafted dishes to share the varied tastes of Indian, Korean, Italian and Mexican foods.
