Marymount Players’ Spring Musical, Wonderful Town, Showcases Student Talent and Teamwork

This weekend, our Marymount Players’ Spring Musical, Wonderful Town, based on the play My Sister Eileen, dazzled audiences with song, laughter and dance. With music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Broadway veterans Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Wonderful Town proved to be a dynamic, challenging and upbeat production that showcased our Marymount Players’ impressive talent and hard work.

In this energetic production, our talented Performing Arts students brought to life the story of two sisters who move to Greenwich Village, New York in hopes of becoming artists. Filled with humor, dance and jazz-inspired music, this spirited play featured thoughtful acting, stunning choreography, and stage presence that left audience in awe. The musical numbers, accompanied live by our gifted orchestra, pushed our actors’ range and rhythm to the limits. The colorful and life-like set brought the setting of 1930’s Greenwich Village to life. Behind the scenes, the complicated lighting, costume and set changes were executed flawlessly by our skilled stage production team.

Such a multi-faceted and impressive production would not have been possible without the steadfast collaboration between several talented teams who worked closely together for months rehearsing, planning and preparing for this production. Forty-three students (and two faculty children!) were involved in the many aspects of producing this play, from the amazingly talented cast who dazzled audiences with their skill, to the orchestra who tied the whole piece together with the beautiful musical accompaniment, to the crew, production assistants, and National Honor Society volunteers who kept everything running smoothly.

With four fantastic and incredibly well-received performances this past weekend, our Marymount Players’ poured their hearts, souls, and talents into this production. Our Performing Arts faculty - Ms. Claire Hackett, Dr. Stephen Billington, Mr. David Conley, Ms. Julie Carson and Mr. Tom Ash - worked closely with our students to support their talents and bring this production to life. As a result of the close collaboration between students and faculty, this challenging play was a rewarding success for all.

To our Marymount Players’, we could not have been more impressed with your hard work and this amazing achievement. Congratulations on this fantastic production; the entire Marymount community applauds the perseverance and skill that went into making this such an impressive feat.
